When it comes to scar treatment, there is no product that has been shown to work at reducing the appearance of scars the way that silicone does. Every study that has been done with silicone for scar reduction has shown that it works to some degree on any scar. In fact, a government published study shows that “topical silicone gel is safe and effective treatment for hypertrophic and keloid scars. It is easy to apply and cosmetically acceptable.” These results show that this works for all types of scars, including burn scars (called contractures) and acne scars as well. Even every old scar can benefit from using silicone based products, including ones that are over 40 years old.
